"Theo, I feel an energy in me, and I'm doing what I can to release it and set it free."
Vincent Van Gogh to Theo Van Gogh, The Hague, January 21, 1882, letter 201
Sinner
Was Theo supporting Vincent just because he was family? Maybe Theo saw some great potential in Vincent?
It leads me to think, "What is art anyways?"
The dictionary defines art as "T he expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power." According to my band director, he believes that art causes the viewership to feel a feeling, and If the audience feels the intended feelings the artist was going for, then it can be called art. He talked for about 10 minutes about how art can make you feel absolute disgust and if the artist who created the piece just one day decided "I'm going to make the most disgusting song I can possibly create with my own two hand and call it art." then it can be called art. Everything he says is just so interesting, I could really listen to him talk for hours, but this one thing that he said about art just really sticks out. (Along with a few other things here and there.)
Back to the topic of Theo, maybe there is a possibility that when he saw Vincent's paintings he saw the pain and sadness reflecting of of his paints? Maybe no one appreciated Vincent's art because they couldn't see it for what it was like Theo could? If the world could see through Vincent's eyes, would he have been successful then?
Anyhow, this week was kind of the same as last week. I ended up with a lot of tests to study for and also stuffing all my reading into the span of, like, 2 days. (Nice one, Teresa. Your're lucky there was extension on the due date for this week.) I'm going to try again next week and hopefully I won't procrastinate.
So that's it for this week, hope you guys liked this one, have a great day!
-Teresa :)
